🔊➡️🎬 J CUT
Audio First, Video Second
The audio from the next clip starts playing before you see the video. Like hearing someone start talking before the camera cuts to them. Makes transitions feel smooth and natural. Used constantly in interviews and documentaries.
🎬➡️🔊 L CUT
Video First, Audio Continues
The opposite of J Cut. The video cuts to the next clip but the audio from the previous clip continues for a moment. Like seeing a new scene but still hearing the dialogue from the last one. Creates a sense of continuity.
⚡ JUMP CUT
Skip Forward in Time
Cutting out a section from the middle of a continuous clip. The subject seems to jump forward in time. Used a lot in YouTube videos to remove pauses and filler words. Feels energetic when done intentionally.
🎭 MATCH CUT
Visual Continuity Between Clips
Cutting from one clip to another where the movement or shape matches visually. Like cutting from a person opening a door to a bird flying away — both have an opening, outward motion. Creates a poetic, cinematic feel.
